REFRIGERATORS :: |
 |
Myth -
Refrigerators are supposed to add coldness to the food inside of it. |
 |
Truth -
Refrigerators do not add cooling,
they actually remove the heat from the food and the air inside it. This heat is
then transferred to the exterior condenser that in turn is absorbed by the air
in the room. |
| |
 |
Myth - The
thermostat varies the amount of cooling the refrigerator produces. |
 |
Truth -
It simply turns the system on and
off to get the desired temperature. For example, the compressor will run at 100%
until the thermostat senses a temperature of say -15°C and then it will stop it
altogether until it rises to -8°C. Still, the food will maintain a more constant
temperature somewhere in the middle. |

WASHING MACHINES :: |
 |
Myth -
Washing machines pump water in to fill it up. |
 |
Truth - When needed, water feed valve simply
opens, letting the normal water pressure fill the wash tub of a machine. The
pumps on select machines are only enables draining the appliance. |

AIR CONDITIONERS :: |
 |
Myth - My
window air conditioner needs to be gas charged every year to work effectively. |
 |
Truth -
Room air conditioners such as window
type should never require recharging of refrigerant/gas. The refrigerant travels
in a sealed system and should never release unless the system is damaged. If
your unit is not cooling as well, as it did previously, it likely only needs a
professional cleaning. |
| |
 |
Myth - You
can bring fresh air into a room and vent dirty or stale air to the outdoors by
turning on your window air conditioner. |
 |
Truth -
Window air conditioners do not
exchange air with the outdoors. They cool and recycle the air within the house
only. On models fitted with a vent, when open, only a percentage of the inside
air is exhausted outside and is not replaced by the unit. |
